Part 1: English through Short Stories

ENGLISH
Enrollment in this course is by invitation only

About this course

WELCOME to the fascinating world of the short story! In this course, we will read stories written recently as well quite a few years ago, of various lengths, penned by speakers of different languages, set in all sorts of settings, and featuring all types of characters.

This course is recommended for those who study English and who are proficient enough to read and understand an extended piece of writing as well as to be able to share insights.

Although this course is called a reading course, reading is closely connected to writing, so there will be opportunities for you to try your hand at creative writing. Additionally, since this is an academic course, you will be expected to produce some academic writing as well.

This course is developed for students of English at Levels B2-C1 (Upper-Intermediate to Advanced).

Prerequisites

The entering proficiency level for students should be at least at the B1-Plus (Intermediate) level.

Janat Hetrick

Greetings! My name is Janat Hetrick. I am an English teacher and a certified online instructor. I enjoy teaching English, training teachers and developing online courses.  I find joy in the outdoors, especially the mountains, and the best way for me to rest is to spend the weekend hiking. Another favorite activity of mine is reading. If I am not hiking, then I am curled up on the couch with a book, a perfect Saturday. I am passionate about reading and instilling the love of reading in children and adults alike. I read books to little people and help them learn English through audiobooks. I also run a book club for big people (A Novel Idea) - we read stories and novels in English and then discuss them - all online.
